Habitat Restoration

In 2013, CBA led a large-scale eelgrass restoration project for Defence Construction Canada (DCC) near Comox, BC. The project included restoring over 3 ha or eelgrass beds in intertidal and subtidal marine habitat. A team of divers harvested eelgrass shoots from donor sites, a shore team prepared the shoots for planting, and the divers planted the shoots in suitable sites to increase habitat for fish and other marine life. The project was a complete success in Year 1 with future monitoring planned to determine the long term outcome.
